Chris Newman is the Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer at Mintz, where he leads the firm’s growth strategy across marketing, business development, client experience and go-to-market execution. He is responsible for building a modern Marketing and BD organization that is data-informed, client-centric, and tightly aligned to how the firm competes and grows.
Chris is the architect of the Mintz Mobilizer model, a firmwide approach to marketing and business development that emphasizes strategic partnership with lawyers, clear accountability, a learning culture, and measurable impact. Under this model, Marketing and BD operate not as service functions, but as embedded growth leaders helping practices and industry teams prioritize the right opportunities, deepen client relationships, and execute with greater focus and consistency.
With more than 20 years in AmLaw 100 firms, Chris has a proven track record of transforming Marketing and BD teams into high-performing growth engines. He is known for bringing structure and clarity to complex environments—aligning strategy, talent, technology, and culture to drive results, while keeping people at the center of the work.
Prior to joining Mintz, Chris held senior leadership roles at McDermott Will & Emery and Cooley, where he led national and global initiatives spanning practice growth, client programs, digital innovation, and cross-practice collaboration. He began his legal career at Cravath, where he developed a deep appreciation for discipline, quality, and excellence at scale.
Chris is the first-ever President of the Board of Advisors for the Legal Sales and Service Organization (LSSO) in the organization’s more than 20-year history. In this role, he has led the modernization of LSSO by helping evolve it into a more practical, growth-oriented community focused on real-world sales, service, and client development excellence. He has also served in multiple leadership roles within the Legal Marketing Association, including as a two-term Regional President and Board Member.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland, College Park.
