The Importance of Advanced Telecommunications Networks to Modern Healthcare

Today brings another example of how the Covid-19 Pandemic is accelerating the use and need for modern communications, and that, in turn, emphasizes the need for wireless and wireline network deployment.  This article is fundamentally about coverage of telemedicine by health insurance. But for me it brings to mind the need for communications infrastructure.

For people to use those advanced communications options, there must be robust and ubiquitous advanced wireless and wireline networks.  Things like remote patient monitoring of blood pressure or glucose are the types of services that 5G will facilitate.  But to get there, we need to get past the impediments and barriers that companies face when they seek to deploy.

But it’s important to note that parity requirements don’t address one telehealth modality: remote patient monitoring, or the use of devices like connected blood pressure monitors or glucometers to keep track of patients’ health at home.
