IPO Market Faces a Critical Juncture

In view of the present volatile stock market, among other things, concern is being expressed about the possible closing of the IPO window.

We suggest continuing to work on being prepared to launch an offering despite the concerns.

Not only may there be an opportunity opening up (which may be short lived) where there will be a benefit to being well positioned, but the preparation for the IPO can also serve to facilitate being acquired, doing a private placement, or making a transformative collaboration or joint venture more likely.

Shares of rapidly growing companies have fallen increasingly out of favor with investors. Many newly listed firms, whose stocks rose after their initial public offerings, have dropped below their IPO prices. At least three companies, leery of jumping into a volatile stock market, postponed their IPOs after the S&P 500 started the week with its biggest three-day swoon in nearly seven months.
