Senior Appointee at Department of Energy Reflects Climate Focus

President Biden has announced his nominee for deputy energy secretary--David Turk, who had, among other things, served as the deputy envoy for climate change at the State Department under the Obama Administration.

Turk's background suggests that climate change will figure prominently in initiatives undertaken by the Energy Department, which is in keeping with other appointments by Biden--e.g., the naming of John Kerry as climate czar.  Perhaps most significantly, this focus on climate and climate change expertise when making appointments--even beyond the top level of officials--reinforces the notion that the commitment of the Biden Administration to this issue is significant, and will be reflected in new policies and regulations promulgated by the federal government.

President Biden plans to nominate David Turk, a former Obama administration official, as his deputy energy secretary. If confirmed by the Senate, Turk will bring years of experience working on climate issues in the federal government to help Biden's energy secretary nominee, Jennifer Granholm, who is new to Washington, manage a department that's at the forefront of enacting Biden's climate agenda.
